What is it about troll bloggers? What sort of person trolls through blog sites looking for people to heap abuse on? I know it's easier to tear something down than it is to build something, but why devote an entire blog to the kind of harsh criticism that causes a long-term blogger and down-right decent guy like Christian from Destination Unknown to close down his blog?
I work with people like this all the time and like to think I have a fairly good handle on them psych profile wise. To me, it's an indicator of social isolation, feelings of helplessness and lack of control in the trollers own life and potentially the concept of "lack of voice". I like -and appreciate- some honest criticism, but this sort of vitriol is just pointless, disgusting and nihilistic. Sure, you could argue that any publicity is good publicity, but to quote Yeates, "Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams".
Bye Christian. I'll miss you dude.
Can you give some details?
ReplyDeleteI was bummed about this as well. I liked Christian's blog, he had some good posts and he seemed like a decent fellow. Hopefully he'll come back once the emotions calm.
ReplyDeleteThat other guy's blog, whom I had never heard of before this, seems to spend much of its time slamming on others. Yet another jerk on the internet trying to get attention by being a douche. Sad part is he's getting some now, but this too will pass.
I'm gone from the Internet for one day and I hear Christian has left. That bites. If you're reading this Christian, I'll miss ya. Come by for lunch, any day.
ReplyDeleteI too hope Christian comes back I always liked reading his posts.
ReplyDeleteThat's rather unfortunate. I think he'll have quite a few more people (the silent majority out there) miss his blog than those who are giving him grief.
ReplyDeleteIf you are reading this, don't give up the ship, Christian.
Last month Christian started following my blogs so I decided to check his out. I was really enjoying what I read and was really disappointed and angry when I read the "review" and saw what it had caused.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that angers me about this guy the most is this: he states openly his opinion that Christian is having troubles at home or work and that he's having a hard time of it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, not only does he fail to mitigate his comments in ight of this, but he then takes positively glee in shitting all over him.
I hope that Christian sees your messages of support and knows that he'll be missed. it might not bring him back to blogging, but hopefully it will at least cheer his mood.
Bums me out, I enjoyed the blog he wrote.

ReplyDelete@ ctulaik:
I've done a quick tour of the blogosphere, and the majority isn't all that silent.
There are a few blogs on my list, but I'd miss very few of them is they went silent. When Christian had his hiatus earlier this year, I found myself stopping by every now and again to make sure I hadn't missed a post. If this really is it, it really is too bad.
I went for a long surf and just floated around and tried to chill. I thought about YDIS' post line for line and just tried to wrap my head around it. I won;t lie. It stung, but people sent e-mails telling me get over it and press on. It's just the anonymity and sheer cruelty that I found a bit hard to grasp.
ReplyDeleteYeah dude, but it's the anonymity that lets cowardly little shits do what he does. I don't think for one moment he'd ever put anything he created out there to be savaged. He'll be able to give it out, but these little creeps never seem able to take it in return.
ReplyDeleteDLTBGYD dude. Don't let the bastards get you down.
Dangerous Brian, you wrote a great post. I found your blog via the now resurrected destination unknown.
ReplyDelete@Christian, glad you're back.
He's back up! That's great news. Thanks for letting me know. Hope you enjoy the blog.
